Recovery efforts are continuing, following the severe weather event that impacted residents and property in Akeringa Place, Mooloolaba on Sunday, June 19.

Director of Community Services Coralie Nichols said the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Recovery Committee was coordinating the clean-up efforts.

“The Department of Communities is working with impacted residents to secure accommodation and provide financial and emotional support,” Ms Nichols said.

“The Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Recovery Committee, council and contractors are continuing to clean-up the affected areas.

“This week council conducted an initial clean-up of the site and engaged specialist contractors to assist with the removal of debris from the street.

“Individual body corporates, insurance companies and private contractors are working to remove debris and begin repairs on the affected properties.

“Council arborists are continuing to clear vegetation and at-risk trees from the public area.”

“Public safety is our highest priority, so we have council Workplace Health and Safety officers, together with the Queensland Government and specialist contractors, conducting daily site monitoring.”

Council’s Disaster Hub website has all the information needed to be prepared before, during and after a severe weather event – including current disaster recovery activities.
