“The Sky is the Limit” was the theme for the 2017 Mayoral Ball and that was exactly the result organisers achieved with more than $94,000 raised for Sunshine Coast charity SunnyKids.
The aero-themed ball took place in early October at McDermott Aviation within the Sunshine Coast Airport precinct.
Mayor Mark Jamieson, who is the Patron of SunnyKids, today thanked the volunteers, suppliers and foundation partners who supported the event and helped to showcase the very best of the Sunshine Coast’s community spirit.
“One in five Sunshine Coast residents act as a volunteer across the region and they do this because they prefer to give rather than receive while also contributing to the social fabric of their local community,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“SunnyKids is supported by a group of enthusiastic volunteers and if it weren’t for the collective effort of Karen Neuendorf and her committee, along with hundreds of volunteers, it is unlikely that this year’s Mayoral Ball would have achieved such a stunning result.
“It really is great news for our healthy, smart, creative region.
“There’s no doubt SunnyKids will really appreciate the funding injection from this event and we’ve also been able to donate proceeds from the night to local charity STEMM, which supports young teenage mothers, as well as sponsoring a bursary at the University of the Sunshine Coast.”
SunnyKids CEO Chris Turner was thrilled with the Mayoral Ball result.
“We were both surprised and delighted to have every single ticket sold two months in advance of the event,” Mr Turner said.
“I think the Mayoral Ball’s location, theme and overall branding which included a menu which showcased local and seasonal produce really ignited people’s imagination.
“Best of all the feedback from many of the 400 attendees has been really positive which was really rewarding considering it was the first time an event like this was held in such a unique location, particularly in only the event’s second year.
“We often say that it take a village to raise a child and the funds raised this year will go a long way towards ensuring disadvantaged children across the Sunshine Coast have the best opportunities to reach their full potential.”
SunnyKids president Karen Neuendorf said the Mayoral Ball was a stunning and elegant event which delivered on all of the expectations of her committee.
“This has been the most significant means of fundraising for Sunnykids this year and I cannot be more thankful for everyone’s selfless contributions which will ultimately be directed towards the growing number of people who need our assistance,” she said.
“We are looking forward to seeing how this event evolves over the years.
“The benchmark set by SunnyKids is really high and I am certain it has now become a ‘must attend’ event on the Sunshine Coast social calendar.”
