Starting the year on a high note

Quartet cast membersCouncil’s Lake Kawana Community Centre is kicking off the New Year on a high note as it welcomes Queensland Theatre Company’s latest production Quartet to the stage on Saturday, February 27 at 7.30pm.

A theatre production which delivers a devilishly funny journey into old age, Quartet is the highly anticipated new production by Ron Harwood. The production is a stunning opening for the 2016 Entertainment Program at Lake Kawana Community Centre, and Quartet will certainly impress audiences on the Sunshine Coast.

Starring screen and stage actor Andrew McFarlane, along with fellow award-winning actors Christine Amor, Trevor Stuart and Kate Wilson, Sunshine Coast residents will be in for a treat.

The story of Quartet begins in a country house in Kent, where retired opera singers Reggie, Cecily and Wilfred have been put out to pasture in a retirement home after a career wowing the world. The annual retirement home concert marking composer Verdi’s birthday is the next headline event for the trio, and all is well.

Serenity however, is shattered by the arrival of their old fourth member and Reggie’s ex-wife Jean.

With talent, drama and much, much class, will the quartet be able to put aside old grudges for one more show-stopping finale?

Quartet takes on retirement with tenderness, grace and hope – but no self pity – in this moving and all too truthful tale of the frustration and fears of getting old.

Quartet will be at Lake Kawana Community Centre for one night only. Tickets are just $40 for SCvip members, $45 for adults and $42 for concession or groups of eight or more.
