Ninderry couple win their rates

Making the switch from receiving rates notices by traditional post to email has paid off in more ways than one for a Ninderry couple who are the latest lucky winners of council’s ‘Win Your Rates’ competition.

Luke and Elissa will have their next rates bill paid after being drawn as the winners of the competition, which ran from July 21 to August 19.

“We live at Ninderry and sometimes our traditional mail can go missing. When our most recent rates notice didn’t arrive in August, I called council’s customer contact to chase up a copy and was asked if I would like to change our delivery method to email,” Elissa said.

“I agreed and within a few minutes our delivery method was changed over to email. It was a terrific surprise to find out we had been drawn as the winners of this competition!”

“We’re certainly looking forward to the convenience of receiving future rates notices electronically and saving paper at the same time which is a plus for our environment.” 

Outstanding Organisation Portfolio Councillor Ted Hungerford said the aim of council’s ‘Win Your Rates’ competition was to encourage Sunshine Coast rate payers to receive their rates notices electronically rather than via traditional postal services.

“Finding ways to be more environmentally friendly is a key element in creating a healthy, smart and creative lifestyle here on the Sunshine Coast,” Cr Hungerford said.

“Moving to an online system enables ratepayers to receive their rates notices wherever they are, anywhere in the world and arrange payment in a more convenient and timely manner to ensure they don’t miss the on-time payment discount.”

“Around 27,700 properties in total have made the change to receiving their rates notices electronically and I encourage ratepayers who’re still receiving their notices in the post to visit council’s website, sign up to MyCouncil or login to their existing MyCouncil accounts and change your preferred rates notice delivery method from post to email.”
