New urban structures propose a strong vision for the future of Caloundra
  • Friday 23 September 2016

Now is the time for Caloundra residents to share their ideas and visions for the future of their town centre.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the draft Caloundra Centre Master Plan aimed to achieve greater activation, connection and vibrancy for the centre of Caloundra.

“It proposes a new urban structure for the Caloundra Centre to assist in achieving economic, social, environmental, transport, infrastructure and urban design goals,” Cr Dwyer said.

“Within that structure are four defined precincts to encourage community activity and promote business and employment opportunities.

“Establishing a secure destination centre focused around connectivity between Bulcock Street and Bulcock Beach will be a vital stage as Caloundra evolves into a key destination for the region.

“Capitalising on our beautiful location will be another key focus to boost tourist population and stimulate business and employment opportunities in the Caloundra.

“The proposal to refresh the town square will provide significant opportunity for urban development and renewal within Caloundra’s CBD.

“Developing a gateway precinct is key to the success of any new town centre and will aim to drive future business and infrastructure investment opportunities for the region.

“The draft Master Plan encourages a strong mix of commercial, tourist, community, sport, education and living opportunities.”

Council is seeking input into the new design for the centre of Caloundra, with feedback received during the community consultation period to inform the final master plan.

Community feedback will close on Friday, October 7.
