A major road refurbishment of Saffron Drive at Currimundi will provide local residents and passers-through with a much smoother, safer and more enjoyable journey.
The capital works on Saffron Road – which commenced on 29 June – will be undertaken in three stages and are scheduled to be complete by Friday 22 July (weather permitting).
Division 3 Councillor Keryn Jones said the major rehabilitation would revitalise the road which had become significantly damaged and uneven in areas.
“The $1.5 million capital works on Saffron Drive will include profiling, sealing and resurfacing carried out from Kalana Road to Erang Street, on both sides of the road,” she said.
“The works were pulled forward due to public requests for it to be completed as soon as possible and ideally to have some of the works take place during the school holiday period when the road is less busy.
“This will allow for the least impact on motorists resulting from the detours and closures in sections.
“Every precaution will be taken to minimise the disruption to local residents’ properties and once the resurfacing works are completed they will be able to drive on the new surface almost immediately.
“I am looking forward to seeing and experiencing the end result of these works.”
