Sunshine Coast Council will seek to improve the availability of car parking spaces in central Mooloolaba by offering increased off-street regulated parking.
The enhanced regulated parking areas have been requested by some businesses in the Mooloolaba area with the goal of improving the occupancy and turnover rates of car parking for visitors and local customers.
A proposed local law amendment allows private car park owners to approach council and request regulated parking in their buildings.
The proposal, which includes a combination of both council-owned land and privately owned car parks in the Mooloolaba area, will be open for community feedback over the next month until July 15.
Division 4 Cr John Connolly said the local law amendment should increase customer and visitor turnover to help meet the ongoing demand for car parking in Mooloolaba.
“This is a very exciting time for Mooloolaba with new development projects under way or coming in the near-future,” Cr Connolly said.
“The new off-street regulated parking areas are time restricted and aim to encourage turnover and optimise the use of car spaces in Mooloolaba.”
The additional off-street regulated parking areas are part of the implementation of the Sunshine Coast Parking Management Plan adopted in October 2017.
“If adopted, better utilisation of these public parking areas will be a great complement to the on-street parking,” Cr Connolly said.
“I expect such requests to increase with time and it’s better to get on the front foot and give businesses and the community the option to get involved early."
In accordance with council’s adopted local law making process, the draft amendment local law and subordinate local law will be referred to the community for consultation and State Interest Checks with State Government agencies.
