Dog owners can now take their pets to a new dog off-leash area at Peregian Springs and enjoy extended hours at Petrie Creek Park, Nambour.
Local law changes for both off-leash areas were approved by council today (March 23).
The fenced off-leash area at Peregian Springs is located at The Avenue and was added to council’s off-leash park network following feedback from the local community.
“The community submissions during the consultation period were the last piece in the puzzle to have the park at Peregian Springs included within local laws,” Division 9 Cr Steve Robinson said.
“I’m pleased we were able to construct a designated area for our furry friends to enjoy.”
Division 10 Cr Greg Rogerson said the change from a timed off-leash area to dogs off-leash at all times, plus added embellishments in Petrie Creek Park including exercise equipment and dog water bowls, had been supported by the community.
“Further improvements to the area are now being investigated to address any community concerns highlighted during consultation,” Cr Rogerson said.
“I am pleased the park is included within local laws and that additional investigation will be conducted to improve the park further.”
Regular park user Ben Drane said he was happy with the changes in Petrie Creek Park.
“It’s great to get my dog out of the house and the improved hours for the off-leash exercise area makes the park much more user and pet friendly,” Mr Drane said.
“It’s great to have designated dog off-leash areas.
“I definitely think it makes the park experience much better for everyone.”
