New section of coastal pathway boarwalk at Wurtulla

A new 250m section of boardwalk and concrete path in Wurtulla has enhanced the Sunshine Coast’s popular coastal pathway.

Division 3 Councillor Peter Cox said the coastal pathway was a pedestrian and cyclist link between Coolum and Golden Beach.

“The recently completed section of the coastal pathway extends from Moondara Drive to Beach Access 249 at Wurtulla,” Cr Cox said.

“It is approximately 250 metres of raised concrete boardwalk and new concrete path through bushland reserve.

“The shared path provides pedestrian and cyclists with a smooth route through shaded bushland and a diversity of habitats.

“We have installed concrete PermaTrack and recycled plastic kick rails on this section of the pathway to reduce maintenance costs and improve safety and longevity.

“Council is continually improving the coastal pathway all the way along our coastline and construction is due to start on the next section in the coming months.

“These upgrades are part of Council’s $183 million Capital Works Program.”

The coastal pathway is designed to also manage sensitive dunal areas. Having a formalised pathway network helps ensure informal tracks are not created by the community. The coastal pathway also links with designated signed beach accesses for the community to safely access the beaches.
