Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is one of the Sunshine Coast’s most popular spots for residents and visitors, and it’s now easier to access after Sunshine Coast Council upgraded a main walking trail.
Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said council had received positive feedback from the community on the trail.
“This new Butterfly Walk trail snakes through the top of the iconic reserve, from the boardwalk to the toilet block, to provide better access and allow more people to enjoy its natural beauty,” Cr McKay said.
“People who visited the reserve during construction commented how natural the stone trail looks.
“It looks just like subtropical rainforest track and fits in with the surroundings very well, but is constructed using materials that will last a long time.
“This is just one of many recreational projects in council’s $183 million capital works program which is helping improve access to our region’s beautiful outdoor areas.”
The improved trail follows the installation of a new shelter at the reserve earlier this year.
