NRL clubs ready for Coast battle
  • Friday 12 February 2016

NRL clubs Melbourne Storm and Wests Tigers have met their fans on the Sunshine Coast ahead of their much anticipated pre-season trial at Sunshine Coast Stadium tomorrow (Saturday).

The two teams arrived at Sunshine Coast Airport just over an hour apart and then held back-to-back open training sessions as they countdown to the first NRL game on the Coast in seven years.

Storm superstar Billy Slater also treated just under 300 youngsters to a “Billy’s Buddies” coaching clinic as Melbourne continued to build on their connection to the region.

Joining him were regular first graders Kevin Proctor, Blake Green and Marika Koroibete as well as State of Origin star Cooper Cronk.

Kickoff tomorrow will be at 5pm with Storm’s Intrust Super Cup feeder teams – Sunshine Coast Falcons and Easts - and its Coast-based NYC under-20s squad to play in curtain-raiser matches from 2.30pm.

Those ties which began when Storm signed a three-year partnership agreement with the Sunshine Coast Falcons in the Intrust Super Cup ahead of the 2015 season.

They headed north for a four-day camp prior to their round 26 NRL blockbuster against the Brisbane Broncos in September and have also decided to relocate their Storm Academy and Holden Cup NYC under-20s program to Sunshine Coast Stadium.
