NBN information sessions – ask your questions
  • Saturday 09 March 2013

The NBN Company wants to talk to residents and businesses in parts of the Coast about fixed wireless services.

The company has organised information sessions in Cooran, Kenilworth, Eumundi and Woombye over the next two weeks to give advice and answer questions on the high-speed broadband service.

Sunshine Coast Council’s Economic Development (emerging industries) portfolio holder Councillor Stephen Robinson has welcomed the news and encourages locals to get along to the sessions if they can.

“The sessions will run from 3pm to 7pm,” he said.

“They will be very helpful and informative for residents and businesses in a range of areas, including Belli Park to Kenilworth, Kidaman Creek to Mapleton, Tinbeerwah to Verrierdale, Cooroy to Cooran, Dulong to Hunchy, Boreen Point to Kin Kin, and surrounding rural areas of these centres.

While these areas will receive fixed wireless services, other parts of the Sunshine Coast local government area will receive either fibre or satellite services depending on where they are located.

“We invite interested residents to drop in to the community information session at any time between 3pm and 7pm on these days to find out more about the broader fixed wireless network and about preliminary plans for fixed wireless facilities in the Sunshine Coast region,” NBN Co’s Community Relations Advisor, Ryan Williams, said.

“For decades, rural and regional Australia has been left behind when it comes to telecommunications and in a modern world, more and more is done on-line. However we also acknowledge that in the rollout of new technology there is a balance to be achieved between infrastructure and lifestyle, and hence the need for discussion.”

The session dates and times are:

Cooran: Wednesday 13 March at Cooran Memorial School of Arts Hall, King Street

Kenilworth: Thursday 14 March at Kenilworth Hall, Elizabeth Street

Eumundi: Tuesday 19 March Eumundi CWA Hall, 80 Memorial Drive;

Woombye: Wednesday 20 March at the Mini Auditorium, Suncoast Church, cnr Kiel Mountain and Schubert Roads.
