A major facelift to popular riverfront Muller Park in Bli Bli has been successfully completed by Sunshine Coast Council for locals and visitors to enjoy these summer holidays.

Division 9 Councillor Stephen Robinson said the latest Muller Park upgrade works included the refurbishment and modernisation of the public amenities and Stage 2 of the revised Muller Park Master Plan.

"Muller Park is a well-loved local fishing and picnicking spot, nestled on the banks of the beautiful Maroochy River and enjoys a rich natural and cultural heritage," he said.

"The parkland however suffered from ageing facilities, unrestricted vehicular access and lengthy periods of poor drainage and bogginess after flooding.

"Stage 1 works of the revised major park refurbishment plan were completed in October 2011 which included improved?drainage, earthworks, car parks and surfacing?and bollards.

"The recently completed Stage?2 works included construction of pathways to enrich usability of the park as well as connectivity.

"Extensive revegetation along the waters edge was also part of this stage to enhance the diversity and ecological value of the area."

Cr Robinson said the new public amenities block has undergone a complete transformation while maintaining most of the original structure.

"The new layout reflects modern design concepts which improve public safety, convenience and sustainability," he said.

"The design also maximises the use of natural light and ventilation to improve the feel of the facility.

"The retention of most of the original structure, use of modern water efficient fixtures and a rainwater harvesting system further highlight council’s commitment to sustainability."

As a last component of the Stage 2 works, improvements to the post and rail barrier towards David Low Way are scheduled for this month.

Council recognises the Cultural Heritage significance of Muller Park and all works were undertaken in accordance with the Muller Park Cultural Heritage Management Plan.
