Council Burns

Council’s planned burn at Mountain Creek Conservation Area, Mountain Creek will take place tomorrow from 10am to 6pm, weather permitting.

Although only 2.5 ha of the park will be burnt, the burn area does back directly onto a residential area behind Petrale Crt, Barracuda Crt, Gourami Crt, Malabar Crt and Coho Crt in the Glenfields estate.

Smoke will be visible from Glenfields Boulevard and the surrounding area, and residents are advised to keep their windows closed.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting light to moderate S to SE winds. This is ideal to minimise smoke impacts to residents in the Glenfields estate.

The planned burn will create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas in the park, help to reduce the amount of forest fuels on the ground and the intensity of any subsequent bushfires.

It will also provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.

The community has been alerted via social media, signage at the entry to Glenfields estate and on local streets, and direct mail.

Smoke can decrease visibility on the roads so it is important that motorists drive safely to the conditions.

Three council fire units and two from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services units will work together on the burn.

A final site and weather assessment will take place in the morning.
