Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson has written to Annastacia Palaszczuk, congratulating her on her appointment as Queensland Premier and inviting her to visit the region for a briefing on key priorities.
Mayor Jamieson said he was enthusiastic about working with the Premier and her government to advance the economic and community objectives that have been set for Sunshine Coast.
“In congratulating the Premier, I advised that as the third largest local government outside Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast Council had carved a clear platform for building prosperity in this region – with a strong focus on employment generation and creating a strong, resilient and inclusive community,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“Many of the major projects that we have planned for the region are squarely focussed on achieving those objectives.
“This Council has a balanced focus on employment and economic development that produces a real social dividend – more enduring employment for our residents, particularly for our young people and families; better facilities that support the needs of our residents as the region continues to grow; and greater household incomes so our residents can continue to enjoy the enviable lifestyle and our pristine environment.
“These are objectives that the Sunshine Coast Council shares with the government and I have every confidence that by working together as a collaborative partnership, we can achieve great things for the region and assist Ms Palaszczuk’s team to deliver on its major policy commitments for Queensland.
“I am enthusiastic about working with Ms Palaszczuk’s government to advance the economic and community objectives that have been set for the Sunshine Coast.”
Mayor Jamieson said he had met with Ms Palaszczuk last year and was keen to personally update the Premier on some of the key plans and priorities for this region.
He hopes the Premier and her Ministers will regularly visit the Sunshine Coast.
“I look forward to working with Ms Palaszczuk and her team,” he said.
