Maleny Cheese Business Manager Jennepher Bucher said the change in approach from their desktop run software to online was a big change for the business, but one that has allowed her to streamline administration processes, saving both time and money.
“Our company’s journey to become more digital began at the end of last financial year when we decided to review the accounting software the company had been using for the past 10 years,” Ms Bucher said.
“We reviewed a number of products to ensure they met our needs, particulary the costs associated with running four entities and the functions we required for each from an accounting perspective, and decided to change to the online-based MYOB Live.
“Moving our accounts online has changed everything.
“It has allowed our bookkeeper to produce our BAS monthly from her home which saves her and us time, and our accountant can work on our files without the need for us to send them to her. Changes are all managed online – it’s fantastic.”
The company has taken their online transition a step further by streamlining their banking and accounts online and using dropbox to share documents between their two office locations, giving them the added benefit of offering staff more flexible working arrangements by allowing them to work from home.
To further boost the company’s efforts to go digital and ensuring their future as a progressive, productive and profitable business, Maleny Cheese has recently signed up to the Sunshine Coast Council’s Level Up program.
“The changes I’ve seen from implementing these digital changes are fantastic and the amount of time we save on administration tasks makes us more productive and more profitable,” Ms Bucher said.
“I’d say we’ve saved a number of hours of administration a week, and as we get used to this new way of working it will save us more and more time.
“It can be a bit hard to get your head around what is out there, to feel confident that it is safe to move your business online and to know how you actually go about it, but I’m so glad we have done what we have done so far and are super excited to learn more through the Level Up program.
“I think it is an amazing opportunity council is providing local businesses and I encourage others to sign up and go for it.”
Economic Development and Innovation Portfolio Cr Steve Robinson said the Level Up program was aimed at small to medium businesses in the Sunshine Coast region.
“Level Up helps local businesses to connect to faster broadband, where available, and fully utilise digital tools, innovation principles and business solutions to enable them to improve their productivity, profitability and ability to compete in national and international markets,” Cr Robinson said.
“This is achieved through a 12-module program which includes a mixture of in-person and online training as well as workshops, webinars and mentoring.
“It’s a great opportunity for local business to get technology working for them, and in the case of Maleny Cheese, save time and money in the process.”
