The first major application for a mixed use development, including residential, commercial and retail space, within the Maroochydore precinct was referred to next week’s Ordinary Council meeting after being reviewed by Council’s Strategy and Planning Committee today.
The application from the Reed Property Group for the 2.279 hectare development at Maroochy Boulevard includes 187 multiple dwelling units and commercial and retail space for everything from offices and showrooms to a gym and medical centre.
Director Development Services, Julie Edwards, said the application was significant in that it was the first of a series of major developments being proposed for the Maroochydore centre.
“Not only does the development cover a significant area within the former Wises Farm area, it also proposes the first real mixed use development,” Ms Edwards said.
“It will offer retail, commercial and residential space not only within the whole development but within the proposed individual buildings.
“This mix of purposes which allow and encourage life and activity, and even use of facilities, within business centres outside office hours is different from the usual purpose specific business or residential developments familiar to the region.”
The recommendation to approve the application will be considered by the full Council at its Ordinary Meeting on Thursday 4 December at the Tewantin office.
