Almost 280,000 square metres of Sunshine Coast roadsides will be better maintained with more frequent mowing and landscaping following an agreement between Sunshine Coast Council and Transport and Main Roads.
Council will maintain the landscapes in medians and verges along state-owned roads with funding from Transport and Main Roads in an extended Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Place Management and Delivery Portfolio Councillor Greg Rogerson said the additional funding allowed council to provide a high standard of presentation across the region.
“It’s important we maintain major roads and gateway points to a high standard to keep the Sunshine Coast looking its best,” Cr Rogerson said.
“The additional maintenance will enhance the landscaping around major interchange points, entry statements, town centres and precincts and major road networks.
“It’s these areas that often provide a sense of ownership to our residents and community members and great looking public areas help make the Coast a great place to live.
“These areas are also the first thing people see when they visit our region, so it’s important we keep them looking good.
“Council thanks the State Government, through Transport and Main Roads, for providing the additional funding and working collaboratively with council to deliver such high quality service for our communities.”
