Agriculture has a long history on the Sunshine Coast, and it must still play a major role our future.

And the issues surrounding its future will be discussed at the Future of Agribusiness on The Sunshine Coast conference being held tomorrow.

“Agri-business is identified in the Regional Economic Development Strategy as one of our high-value industries for a sustainable economy,” Sunshine Coast Council Economic Development portfolio councillor Stephen Robinson said.

“This conference, sponsored by council, represents a valuable additional step flowing from the Rural Futures Strategy and Regional Economic Development Strategy aimed at moving from higher level policy to specific issue identification and action.”

Cr Robinson will address the conference at the Innovation Centre tomorrow afternoon, and will be joined by fellow speakers, local agribusiness spokesman Dr John Switala and Suncorp Bank agribusiness head Greg Leahy.

State Environment Minister Andrew Powell will open the conference while Mayor Mark Jamieson will provide the closing address.
