Less than a week after launching its inaugural foundation membership campaign, Sunshine Coast Lightning has reached a milestone with 1000 foundation member packages sold.

Fans immediately answered the call to join the side on its history-making journey towards the Suncorp Super Netball season, with the 1000th inaugural member signing up on Sunday.

Lightning CEO Danielle Smith said she was thrilled with the response from fans and the show of community support for the team.

“Thank you to everyone who has become a foundation member. You will be the club’s driving force,” Smith said.

“A solid membership base will help Lightning become a strong and successful club and we look forward to our members coming on the journey with us in our inaugural season.”

As the Sunshine Coast’s first professional sports team to compete in a nation-wide competition, the club is growing its fan base and garnering support from the whole Coast community.

“We encourage all sport and entertainment enthusiasts to purchase a membership to be part of the excitement in the lead-up to our first home match at the University of the Sunshine Coast Sports Stadium,” Smith said.

Lightning has continued its pledge to make the community part of the team, with all foundation member packages providing fans with access to players throughout the season.

The three options - Supporter, Gold and Platinum - range in value from $50 to $500 and provide plenty of exclusive foundation member merchandise, priority access to purchase discounted tickets, as well as access to finals.

Members can immerse themselves in the club and be a part of Sunshine Coast history by becoming an inaugural member.

Head coach Noeline Taurua said the Coast community’s support for the team had been overwhelming.

“It shows us how important this club is to so many people. We need to be proud of what we do on court and be aware of who we represent,” Taurua said.

“The sheer volume of memberships is amazing. Those numbers will keep increasing and that’s incredible for a regional team in a national competition.

“We believe we are working together with locals and that’s the reason we are here. We are accessible and we can inspire others to want to be a part of this club.”
