Council’s Community Services Director Coralie Nichols said Sunshine Coast Libraries secured the third prize at the 2016 International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) BibLibre International Marketing Award thanks to the campaign which provided a fun way to engage with new audiences.
“The Award honors organisations that have implemented creative, results-oriented marketing projects or campaigns that promote the library and information services industry,” Ms Nichols said.
“The ‘pop up’ marketing campaign was created to connect with the community aged between 40 and 55 to let them know about the free access to the diverse online eLibrary resources any time of the day.
“This campaign saw Sunshine Coast Libraries ‘popping up’ at major events on the Coast interacting with people outside of the traditional library environment.
“There were elements of surprise, intrigue and fun included at each of the six ‘pop ups’ delivered on a very lean budget.
“Creative costumes, taglines and key messages were crafted to match each event such as the ‘Libraries Colour my Life’ theme used at the Swisse Color Run.
“At each of the ‘pop ups’ the enthusiastic team were armed with a camera to capture it all, ensuring the campaign was a great success. They achieved a reach of almost 12,000 on Facebook alone.
“This clever concept created an opportunity for people to think differently about their library and to broaden their understanding of what libraries have to offer.”
Coincidently, the second prize winner in the awards was Xiamen University Libraries China. Xiamen is Sunshine Coast Council’s Chinese sister city. Vancouver Public Library in Canada took out first prize.
