Len Hughes – Master match stick sculptor
  • Tuesday 07 April 2015

Council presents a beautiful display of Len Hughes creative sculptures at Maroochydore Library until April 17, 2015.

The display includes a range of Australian animals from wombats, galahs, penguins and wallabies.

Len Hughes is a unique talent. This 79 year old from Maroochydore does something quiet distinctive he studies photos then sculpts iconic attractions from around the world using matchsticks and glue.

Len has built over 331 ships to reproduce the “Spanish Armada”. Other sculptures include the Eiffel Tower, Niagara Falls and the Taj Mahal just to name a few.

He has a unique ability and patience to reproduce to scale what he sees in photos with nothing more than matchsticks and glue.

Len continues with his world of match craft as a member of the Maroochydore Men’s Shed and spends many hours creating interesting sculptures. This is a free event and no bookings are required.

Visit Council’s library website for the location and opening hours for the Maroochydore Library.
