The Chief Executive Officer of Sunshine Coast Council, John Knaggs, will continue in the role after being re-appointed by council.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said Mr Knaggs has an important role to play in continuing to position the council and the region to meet the current challenges and those still ahead.
“The strong support of the council team is a vote of confidence in the ability and performance of Mr Knaggs, and demonstrates our determination to improve our region’s prospects,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“John was the first CEO of Sunshine Coast Council and he has done an outstanding job in difficult circumstances.
“The amalgamation of three councils into one was an extremely tough assignment, but John delivered it effectively.
“The region now needs his experience to lead the continuing success, and indeed the creation of a new Sunshine Coast Council, through and beyond Noosa’s de-amalgamation.
“In many ways this is a pivotal time in the history of the Sunshine Coast, and it will be important to have John’s guidance in the delivery of the new planning scheme and the creation of a new CBD in Maroochydore.
“The CEO will also implement the organisational review as council strives to become even more effective in service delivery, and more efficient through restructuring
“In the first year of this council a new direction has been taken to attract more investment which creates jobs, this could only have been done in partnership with the CEO, his executive team and our employees.
“John is the right person for the position – and I look forward to continuing to work closely with him in the coming years as we make the Sunshine Coast the most sustainable region in Australia.”
