Landsborough jumps at park name

A popular Sunshine Coast Council park in Landsborough known locally as “Skippy Park” can now officially claim the title following Council's decision today to support an application to formalise the name which was first given in recognition of the kangaroos that often visit.
Local Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski – who submitted the park name application with overwhelming support from local residents – said the much-loved community park had been known as Skippy Park for many years by locals.
“In recent times council has invested significantly in Skippy Park and this has dramatically increased visitation and pride in this park,” Cr Baberowski said.
“We’ve improved the park’s active play, sport and recreational facilities, vegetation, public amenities and road infrastructure, which together have also increased user numbers and enhanced the range of visitor experiences.
“Formalising its name, which was given to it by locals who have enjoyed the park also allows us to showcase that this is a council park and will ultimately help others in the wider district locate the park through search engines etc.
“The name is very well accepted and well-known by the local community and once the name is formally endorsed I’m looking forward to council constructing an effective park entry statement.”
