There’s outdoor yoga and group fitness classes, as well as Zumba and gentle exercise classes for seniors.
Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said council acknowledged taking part in regular physical activity was important for everyone’s health and that’s why Healthy Sunshine Coast was launched in 2016.
“Since our launch, more than 20,000 people have taken up the opportunity to join in one of the many free or low cost classes delivered across the Coast,” Cr McKay said.
“With the popularity of the program growing, it is really making a difference to our vision for the Sunshine Coast to be Australia’s most sustainable region – healthy, smart, creative.”
Cr McKay said whether you enjoyed exercising in a picturesque beachside park or indoors at a training facility or community hall, Healthy Sunshine Coast offered something for everyone.
“Imagine the peace and serenity of joining an outdoor yoga class in the Maroochy Bushland Botanic Garden or laughing your way through a Zumba class at Kings Beach Ampitheatre,” Cr McKay said.
“One of the major successes of the program is the partnerships we have formed with TAFE Queensland, SCU and a range of qualified fitness trainers and facilities sharing their health and wellbeing expertise.
“Outdoor community yoga has been extremely popular, allowing people to be ‘at one’ with nature in a range of serene locations across the region.
“We are constantly adding new free or low cost classes to our Healthy Sunshine Coast program to suit everyone from new mums to seniors.”
