ImageJoin a fun night of discussion and robust laughter at Sunshine Coast Libraries Big Book Club at council’s Maroochydore Library from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, June 16.

Special guests on the Big Book Club panel include Australian author and Courier-Mail columnist Frances Whiting and popular local author Mary-Lou Stephens. This super duo will lead a review of Hannah Kent’s award-winning fiction, Burial Rites.

As a senior feature writer for Q Weekend in the Courier Mail and columnist for the Sunday Mail, Frances Whiting is one of Australia’s best known and beloved writers. Frances has released two books, both of which have appeared on national best-selling lists.

Mary-Lou Stephens, formerly known as one of Sunshine Coast’s favourite radio announcers and Music Director on ABC Coast FM, has published two books in the last three years.

Based on a true story, Burial Rites was shortlisted in 2014 for the Stella Prize and Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction. Set against Iceland's stark landscape, Hannah Kent brings to vivid life the story of Agnes, who, charged with the brutal murder of her former master, is sent to an isolated farm to await execution.

Books written by the panel, including Burial Rites, will be available for purchase at each venue.

Tickets are just $25 per person and bookings are a must via council’s library website. Light refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages will be included.

Sunshine Coast Libraries has 151 registered book clubs with a collection of 500 titles and is a great way to socialise and meet new people.
