dog off leash beach

Summer is here, the weather is warming up and it’s a wonderful time of year to take your dog for a walk along the beach.

There are 13.5km of dedicated dog off-leash beach across 11 separate areas on the Sunshine Coast for the community and our many visitors to enjoy. There are also 20 dog off-leash parks, including eight fenced parks.

There are areas that allow for dogs to be exercised off-leash at all times of the day, as well as timed beaches where dogs are allowed off-leash between 4pm and 8am daily.

There are also beaches that are on-leash at all times and beaches that are prohibited for dogs.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay encouraged residents to do the right thing when taking their dog to the beach.

“For dog owners, taking your dog for a walk along the beach is one of life’s simple pleasures, but we need to ensure we all do the right thing and be responsible pet owners,” Cr McKay said.

“During summer, our beaches get extremely busy so it’s important to ensure that your dog is being well behaved and doesn’t interfere with other beach goers.

“Please also help to keep our beaches clean and always pick up after your dog – bag it and bin it.”

Find information, fact sheets and a map for residents and visitors, listing the various locations and times available to dog owners, including off-leash beaches, on-leash areas and exercise dog parks.

Dogs are prohibited from between the flagged swimming areas at all times. All beach access points are signed advising of the usage relating to exercising dogs.
