Heritage Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the Resourcing the Region grant was an initiative funded by the Heritage Levy and was open to museums and cultural heritage organisations within the Sunshine Coast local government area.
“The purpose of the funding program was to develop new curriculum-linked educational resources which supports increased visitation to museums and cultural heritage organisations by developing a product that responds to school curriculum needs, and is able to be delivered by museum volunteers,” Cr Baberowski said.
“I am pleased to announce the successful recipients are Queensland Air Museum, Kenilworth and District Historical Association, Landsborough and District Historical Society Inc, Eumundi and District Historical Association, Buderim Historical Society Inc and Buderim-Palmwoods Heritage Tramway Inc.
“Up to $5,000 was available for cultural heritage groups to engage a suitably experienced education consultant to undertake this work.
“There is no doubt the region’s heritage is important and this funding will help educate the next generation of heritage enthusiasts and volunteers.”
As an example, the Landsborough and District Historical Society Inc will use the funding for the specialised development of a Landsborough Historical Museum education resource.
This specifically developed resource will provide students and teachers with a number of Australian Curriculum targeted activities.
It will be made available to all visitors but its primary target will be local schools.
It is anticipated that there will be some input from the Landsborough State School who already regularly use this significant local facility.
