Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said the Sunshine Coast Library Plan 2014-2024, the result of an extensive community engagement program, identified a need to investigate opportunities to redesign the Maleny Library, which is the second smallest in the library network but one of the busiest.
“The feedback process is the second stage in the community engagement program which started earlier this year with the community asked to provide their thoughts on what an extended building might look like and what it may include,” Cr McKay said.
“It is important that the community has the opportunity to give their views on the Maleny Library Facility Development Plan which will provide recommendations to council on the expansion of the Maleny Library.
“The feasibility study will explore the opportunities for extending the Maleny Library, while retaining the amenity of the building and the needs of the community.
“A display has been set up in the foyer of Maleny library from today to Friday, November 4, to allow the community to vote on the concept plans, which have been designed following the initial feedback provided.”
Cr McKay said community feedback will help to prioritise future investment that aligns with community needs, patterns and interests.
“The results of this poll will help council prepare detailed design drawings and costing that will inform a recommendation for council to consider,” Cr McKay said.
“However, it is important to note the Facility Development Plan will be dependent on annual budget allocations and funding streams.”
Maleny Library is located at 5 Coral Street, Maleny.
