Now is the time for Sunshine Coast skaters, BMXers and scooter riders to share their ideas on the changes they would like to make for the upgrade to the popular Alexandra Headland skate park.
Council is seeking input into the new design for the skate park before construction begins in 2017.
A community engagement workshop will be held on May 7 or design ideas can be provided by completing an online survey, which will be available on council’s website from May 9.
Division 4 Councillor John Connolly said council was working with a specialised team on the upgrade.
“We’re very keen to hear what people want in the refurbished skate park so if you skate, scoot, blade or ride a BMX bike, make sure you help us shape the design,” Cr Connolly said.
“Council is working with a specialised team, including experienced skate park designers, on this upgrade to make sure the new Alex skate park is a modern and innovative facility.
“The upgrade project will also include additional seating, shade and other infrastructure such as lighting.”
Date: Saturday, May 7
Time: Session One: 4-6pm
Session Two: 7-9pm
Location: Alex Surf Club, Training Room
After the first round of community consultation, a draft design will be presented to the community for further feedback in late 2016.
Upgrading the Alexandra Headland skate and BMX park will help cater to the recreational needs of our community as identified in the Sunshine Coast Skate and BMX Plan 2011-2020.
