How do you envisage the Coolum Sports Complex now and into the future?
Now is the time to have your say as Sunshine Coast Council develops the Coolum Sports Complex Master Plan 2011-2026. This plan will identify a 15-year long-term vision for what the complex should look like and how it should function.
Council is holding a 'Meet in the Complex' session on Saturday 9 July 2011 from 9am to 11am at the Coolum Sports Complex, David Low Way, Coolum Beach. All user groups and wider community representatives are invited to attend and discuss ideas and provide feedback.
Division 9 Councillor Vivien Griffin said this community engagement session provided residents with the opportunity to speak up and help shape the master plan for this integral Coolum sporting hub.
"The Coolum Sports Complex is an important facility to the Coolum and broader community, providing key sport, recreation, community and active living opportunities and contributing to the social fabric of the area," Cr Griffin said.
"It is also a key contributor to the broader hierarchy of sport and recreation facilities across the Sunshine Coast region.
"It is important that council develops the master plan to reflect population growth demands, as well as the changing needs of community and local sport and recreation users.
"The purpose of the plan is to ensure the complex continues to function as a valuable community resource into the future, taking into account its location and any environmental constraints.
"Your input is very valuable to us – as this is your community sports complex after all. Opportunities like this don’t come around very often, so don’t miss out on your chance to have your say."
The development of the master plan is a recommendation from council’s Sunshine Coast Sport and Active Recreation Plan. The plan acknowledges the significant population growth in the area and the resulting increase in demand for quality sport and recreation facilities by the community.
At the ‘Meet in the Complex’ session residents will be able to review two proposed concept plans and provide feedback to council staff and consultants.
Community and relevant stakeholder information obtained during the feedback phase will assist with the development of the draft Coolum Sports Complex Master Plan, due for endorsement later in 2011.
The Coolum Sports Complex is located to the north of Coolum’s urban footprint and is surrounded by the Noosa National Park. The site covers an area of about 17 hectares and there are currently eight users with around 1700 members. The uses include rugby league, cricket, netball, tennis, croquet, touch football, soccer and swimming.
