Have your say on plans for Sunshine Beach village centre
  • Tuesday 05 January 2010

Sunshine Coast Council is seeking community input to the development of a new Placemaking Masterplan for the Sunshine Beach shopping precinct.

The Sunshine Beach Masterplan study area includes the Duke Street shopping precinct, Ed Webb Park, and the adjacent foreshore carpark areas.

Councillor Russell Green said the plan aims to deliver a unique, creative and functional design that heightens the experience for all visitors to Sunshine Beach and which builds on the existing lifestyle and character of the area.

He said engaging Sunshine Coast residents, visitors, business people and artists is an important part of the planning process.

“Council is committed to a place-making approach which capitalises on the community’s assets, inspiration and potential,” Cr Green said.

“It’s about delivering great outcomes for our community by creating good public spaces that promote people’s health, happiness and wellbeing.“

The masterplan is currently in the information gathering and analysis stage and there are a number of opportunities for the community to get involved:

  • Fill out the online survey by 31January 2010 (go to www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au and follow the links from the get involved section on the home page).
  • Participate in an on-site interview and have your story videoed and fed back to Council.
  • Send in photos, sketches and other ideas
  • Attend the community meeting and workshop on Thursday 18 February 2010 at Sunshine beach Surf Club.

Council has commissioned a consultancy team to engage the community with roving video interviews, small focus groups, a community workshop and focus group workshops. Information from these activities will be compiled into a short film and a consultation report. All ideas are welcome.
