A direct bus service between Coolum and Nambour is set to begin soon but first Sunshine Coast Council needs the local resident’s thoughts on the proposed route and timetable.
Residents are asked to visit council’s website or review the advertisements in their local paper for the draft information and to provide their thoughts on the trial service by Wednesday 9 February 2011.
Integrated Transport Systems Portfolio Councillor Vivien Griffin said that the new service, which is funded by the Public Transport Levy, will greatly improve the access from Coolum to Nambour.
“This will be the first time a direct service has been offered between Coolum and Nambour,” Cr Griffin said.
“We aim to create a useable service for the local people—whether they are travelling to work, taking a trip to the hospital or just visiting friends—which is why it’s important they take this opportunity to have a say.
“The feedback will be used to finalise the details for the trial service.
“The proposal is for four return bus services a day, seven days a week between Coolum and Nambour including the morning and afternoon peak hour periods.
“The proposed route will run from Coolum past the Sunshine Coast Airport, via Bli Bli to Nambour, including the Nambour Hospital and will be an all stop service.
“We anticipate the trial will begin in April and run until 30 June 2011 initially, with the cost being met through the Public Transport Levy.
“The trial will allow us to assess the level of demand for a direct service along this route, and help to determine whether the changes will meet customer demands for timeliness, efficiency and frequency.”
