Registrations are now open for the inaugural Nambour parkrun to be held in Parklands Regional Park on Saturday, November 21 at 7am.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay Parkrun is a free 5km run or walk event for people of all abilities and ages that takes place every Saturday morning in 10 countries across the world.
“Globally in excess of 1 million participants are currently registered and this is growing exponentially by the day,” Cr McKay said.
“Programs such as parkrun contribute to the health and wellbeing of the region. The stories from participants on how parkrun has transformed their lives are truly inspirational. I’ve heard stories about people who are now leading healthier lives and others who now have a social network and are leading less isolated lives.
“Council’s Sunshine Coast Social Strategy highlights the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle as it improves the overall liveability of our region.”
Councillor Greg Rogerson said all the community are invited to join in the free global community-running phenomenon – Nambour parkrun.
“Nambour parkrun is the fourth location in the Sunshine Coast Local Government area,” Councillor Rogerson said.
“Nambour parkrun is an entirely new option for the Sunshine Coast community ─ where the event is held 100% in beautiful bushland trails at Parklands Regional Park, Parklands and includes hills and a creek crossing.
“Parklands Regional Park is a shared multi-use recreational area used by mountain bike riders and hikers so please remember to be mindful of other park users.
“I look forward to joining Councillor McKay to launch the inaugural run on November 21.”
