Get moving at The Treehouse Initiative’s Dragon Boat Regatta
  • Tuesday 10 December 2013

Sunshine Coast Council is excited to host The Treehouse Initiative’s Dragon Boat Regatta on Sunday, December 14 at Lake Kawana with the first heat getting underway at 9.30am.

Since The Treehouse Initiative Inc. began in September 2013, they have been on a mission to provide help and support to families whose kids have special needs. This December, Sunshine Coast Stadium, The Treehouse Initiative and the Sunshine Coast Dragon Boat Club are coming together in an effort to raise money for Sunshine Coast families and children of all abilities. But most importantly, they can’t do this without you.

Dragon Boat racing originated from China 2000 years ago and is not only one of the oldest sports in the world, but one of the largest team sports in the world. The 200m race will test the culmination of your coordination, strength and stamina and will be full of fun for those either participating or spectating.

You don’t have to consider yourself an athlete to participate; all you need to do is come along with some friends, family or work colleagues and get prepared to have a tonne of fun. This is a great opportunity for Sunshine Coast businesses to get involved in as it will not only help the community, but will create lasting memories for your colleagues.

Once your team is decided, all you need to do is nominate a captain, register, fundraise and then race. Registration is $400 per team ($40 per paddler) and includes boat and paddle hire for race day. There are prizes not only for first place, but also best dressed and the highest fundraising teams.

It will be an exciting opportunity for you to unleash your inner dragon boat competitive instincts while having oodles of fun, making new friends and raising money towards a greatly needed cause.

To register for a team you can contact Claire Gilmour from The Treehouse Initiative on 0448 965 779 or email
