National Youth Week is the largest celebration of young people in Australia and the Sunshine Coast isn't missing out.
Thousands of young people aged 12-25 from across the country will be involved in National Youth Week activities from today until April 19.
The 2015 National Youth Week theme "It starts with us" is a call to action for young people to get involved in their communities.
Embracing this theme, Sunshine Coast Council is seeking registrations from young people for its new youth engagement program.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said Council’s youth engagement program is being re-established to make sure young people have a voice and are involved in planning, developing and building the Sunshine Coast region.
“The engagement program will ensure young people are included and have access to Council’s decision making processes relating to issues that affect them or in which they have an interest,” Cr McKay said.
“If you are aged 12 to 25, this is your opportunity to make a real difference by helping shape community projects, programs, events, activities and policies that matter to you.
“Previous participants of Council’s youth engagement program have initiated some exciting projects including the planning and design of skate and BMX parks, community and youth projects, National Youth Week activities, school holiday programs and development of the Sunshine Coast Youth Strategy 2010-2015.
“It is really easy to get involved in Council’s youth engagement program. Simply download the registration form from Council’s website, complete the form and return it to Council. Forms must be returned by 10 May 2015.”
