Escape, explore, discover, laugh, dream and imagine the possibilities at Council library branches during Library and Information Week from May 25 to 31.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the theme for the 2015 Library and Information Week was "Imagine" and the community was invited to head to their local library and explore the many library services and resources.
“This week is the chance for libraries to showcase their value to the community in a fun way,” Cr McKay said.
“Sunshine Coast Libraries have planned an exciting range of events to celebrate Library and Information Week. There is literally something to suit all ages.
“New York artist Kelsey Montague’s large interactive wings art mural will be on display at the Maroochydore Library from May 18 to June 6.
“People are invited to come down and have their photo taken with the wings and then upload to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtags #whatbookliftsyou, #whatliftsyou and #sunshinecoastcouncil.
“The community can register to see best-selling Australian author Peter Watt at 6pm on Wednesday, May 27, at Nambour Civic Centre. Tickets are just $25 per person and include appetisers, a free drink on arrival and entertainment provided by the Bluegrass band, Repeat Offenders.
“And children don’t miss out on the fun. They can join thousands across Australia in the National Simultaneous Storytime fun which will take place in every Sunshine Coast library at exactly 11am on Wednesday, May 27. This year the book is The Brothers Quibble by Aaron Blabey. This event is free and no bookings are required.
“We will also be running a Design a Book Cover competition from Monday, May 11 to Saturday, May 30. Using ‘Imagine’ as inspiration, people are invited to send in their best design and the winner will have their artwork replicated into a Sunshine Coast Libraries bookmark.
