Get Connected and get on stage
  • Wednesday 01 April 2009

If you are aged between 10 and 17 years you can Get Connected and be part of this year’s Shout Out Loud Youth Arts Festival – but you’d better be quick as rehearsals for the stage spectacular start this month.

Sunshine Coast Council’s Community Support Officer Katie Edmiston said young people who take part in this year’s Get Connected program will create and present a cinematic theatre production, a unique blend of live performances backed up by a big screen cinematic experience.

“The workshops will be run by Brisbane-based company ‘Markwell Presents’ who have developed a unique theatre experience and already produced a number of cinematic theatre productions with young people,” Ms Edmiston said.

“Get Connected aims to bring people, particularly those aged between 10 and 17, together from across the Coast to explore ideas and create a new type of performance, one that is exciting, engaging and entertaining.”

The first step for anyone interested in being part of the project is to enrol in workshops being held at both the Butter Factory in Cooroy and The J at Noosa Junction starting later this month.

“Both workshops will run simultaneously with one group rehearsing at Cooroy and one at Noosa and then, after ten weeks, the two groups will be brought together,” Ms Edmiston said.

“The end result of this work will be showcased on 4 July when their collaborative performance piece will be part of the Shout Out Loud Youth Arts Festival at The J.”

Noosa workshops start on Monday 20 April and will run from 4-6pm and the Cooroy workshops start on Tuesday 21 April and will run at the same times.

Combined rehearsals will be on 2 and 3 July.
