Free parking for Caloundra CBD over Christmas
  • Thursday 13 November 2014

In the spirit of Christmas, Caloundra shoppers will be able to take advantage of free parking in the CBD area over the Christmas period.

Sunshine Coast Council today supported a request by the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc. for a parking meter fee amnesty in the Caloundra CBD for six weeks starting Saturday, December 13, 2014.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said Christmas is always a busy time for shoppers, and during the amnesty they won’t have to find the coins.

“That’s just one less thing to worry about as they go about their shopping,” Cr Dwyer said.

“A two hour time limit will still apply to parking in the Caloundra CBD. Council officers will continue to oversee general parking regulation throughout the area to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians and to help support customer turnover for businesses. Parking infringements will still attach a penalty infringement notice.

“We endorsed a parking amnesty period last Christmas following a request from the Chamber.”

There are 71 paid parking meters in operation in the Caloundra CBD. During the amnesty period it is anticipated that Council’s foregone revenue in metered parking will be between $50,000 and $55,000.

The paid parking amnesty will conclude at midnight on Monday, January 26, 2015.
