It’s time to celebrate our region’s milestone year and local community groups and not-for-profit organisations are invited to help stage the party by applying for a 50th Anniversary grant.
Applications for round two of Category A grants in the 50th Anniversary Fund are now open and close on Friday, May 19, 2017.
The one-off fund was established to help community groups fund events and activities to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast.
Applicants can apply for up to $2000 to enhance activities, projects or existing events with commemorative 50th Anniversary components
Eighteen community groups were awarded grants in round one with a diverse range of activities and events receiving financial support.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said council had received an overwhelming response in the first round of grants.
“So far, we’ve been able to select a rich and diverse range of events, projects and activities which celebrate our history, lifestyle and local community,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“We look forward to seeing what other celebrations and activities local community groups would like to stage as part of the milestone celebrations.”
Community days, a street fair, outdoor movie night, art exhibitions, a commemorative cook book, concerts, musical tributes, heritage exhibitions and an open cockpit weekend are just some of the local community activities sponsored so far by the 50th Anniversary Fund.
More activities and events funded by 50th Anniversary grants are currently being planned, with details to be released in late March.
