Eumundi’s tourist appeal will soon have extra fizz thanks to the return of an iconic local beer brand.
Eumundi Lager is set to once again be brewed at its spiritual home, the Imperial Hotel, in the heart of the Sunshine Coast hinterland town.
The craft beer was brewed in Eumundi from 1988 to 1992.
Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson said the return of Eumundi Lager would create a new point of interest for tourism.
“This is fantastic news for the town of Eumundi that is already home to Australia’s biggest art and craft markets – the Eumundi Markets – that attract around 1.6 million visitors per year,” Cr Rogerson said.
“Eumundi is also home to a number of terrific boutique shops and art galleries and with the extensive renovations that have taken place at the Imperial Hotel, having a craft brewery there will be another terrific tourism drawcard, particularly for non-market days.
“On behalf of the Sunshine Coast, and particularly the town of Eumundi, I’d like to thank Lion Brewmaster Chuck Hahn and Imperial Hotel General Manager joint owner Michael Arnett for their foresight and collaboration in making this terrific tourist attraction for the town a reality.
“We’re certainly looking forward to when the first beer is pulled in the new year!”
Visit Sunshine Coast CEO Simon Latchford welcomed the return of the much loved local craft beer - Eumundi.
“Congratulations to Sunshine Coast Council and the Imperial Hotel on the initiative to bring Eumundi Lager back to the region,” Mr Latchford said.
“This will not only be fantastic for the Eumundi township, link with heritage of the region, add to our impressive reputation as a culinary destination of high quality food and beverage producers, but importantly will create national and global destination awareness for the Sunshine Coast.”
