Escape to everywhere during Children’s Book Week

ImageCouncil’s libraries invite children to dress as their favourite character and attend a storytime session during Children’s Book Week from August 19-26.

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said each year across Australia, the Children’s Book Council of Australia brings children and books together celebrating Children’s Book Week.

“During this time, our libraries join schools, booksellers, authors and illustrators to celebrate Australian children's literature,” Cr McKay said.

“This year the theme for Children’s Book Week is Escape to Everywhere and we are inviting children to dress up in their favourite character and head to a storytime session at Beerwah, Caloundra, Coolum, Kawana, Maleny, Maroochydore and Nambour Libraries.”

Dress up in your favourite character and attend one of the following free storytime sessions:

Beerwah Library: Tuesday, August 22 from 10.30am – 11.30am

Caloundra Library: Thursday, August 24 from 10.30am – 11.30am

Caloundra Library: Saturday, August 19 from 10am – 10.30am

Coolum Library: Thursday, August 24 from 9.30am – 10.30am

Kawana Library: Wednesday, August 23 from 10am – 11.00am

Maleny Library: Thursday, August 24 from 9.30am – 10.30am

Maroochydore Library: Tuesday, August 22 from 9.30am – 10.30am

Maroochydore Library: Saturday, August 19 10am – 11.00am

Nambour Library: Wednesday, August 23 from 9.30am – 10.30am

Nambour Library: Saturday, August 19 from 10am –10.30am.

In 1946, Children’s Book Council of Australia established annual book awards to promote children's books of high literary and artistic quality.

These awards are now the most influential and highly respected in Australia.
