Ensuring that safe and sustainable transport infrastructure is available for locals and visitors is of paramount importance to Sunshine Coast Council.
To enable this objective to be met, council will temporarily close Dalton’s Bridge on Eastern Mary River Road, Conondale, on Tuesday 18 December from 6am to 6pm to carry out emergency maintenance works.
Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said the repair works were needed to ensure the bridge remained safe for traffic.
"Council identified a potential problem with the bridge while carrying out routine repair works over recent days," she said.
"On the expert advice of a structural consultant it was identified that the bridge needs to be temporarily closed to enable these repairs to take place.
"It is expected that the bridge will be re-opened to traffic on Tuesday evening however this may be subject to change and council will provide updates via our Facebook page.
"I understand that this may inconvenience some motorists who regularly use the bridge however council is carrying out these works to ensure everybody’s safety.
"The Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, local bus services, RACQ and all other relevant emergency services have been notified of the temporary bridge closure."
Access to Eastern Mary River Road will be available via Cambroon Bridge at Cambroon while repair works are in progress.
