Are you wondering what development on the Sunshine Coast means for you? If so, it is worth spending a little time reading the 2015 Development Indicators Annual Highlights Report which council published last month.

The report documents local development activity that took place in 2015 and demonstrates that development on the coast continues to increase, providing the infrastructure we will need in the future as well as employment opportunities.

The figures show 2015 was the busiest year on record in terms of development. $1.28 billion of building approvals were issued - the highest value seen on the Sunshine Coast in seven years.

A 20% increase in building approvals was recorded in 2015 compared to 2014. Significant developments included the YOUI headquarters and Coles supermarket in Sippy Downs, aged care facilities at Coolum and Warana, and a large medical complex in Birtinya.

Construction value also increased 7% on the previous year’s figures. There was a 32% increase in the number of lots created through council’s plan sealing process, compared to 2014, and applications to reconfigure lots increased 58%.
