Operation Med School
It is looking like the Sunshine Coast University Hospital could be the only tertiary teaching hospital in Australia without a medical school.
As a community, we have every right to question why the additional 15 required medical school places haven't been allocated before now. For too long, the Sunshine Coast has gone without, and I don’t believe that mediocrity is a standard our community should or will accept.
I want to reiterate that the Mayor, Councillors and council staff, have not once criticised the value of our $1.87 billion Sunshine Coast University Hospital. We have however, highlighted the commitment made, and our disappointment in the Government for failing to meet the obligations that their commitment demands.
Sunshine Coast residents should have the opportunity to live, work, and train in this field, without having to move interstate or to a capital city. Our annual Budget allocates funds for region shaping projects, and our campaign is covered via the 2016/17 financial year allocation.
Visit council’s website before 15 February to help send a message to our Prime Minister and our Federal Government.
Bulcock Street streetscape
With the latest stage of the Bulcock Street streetscape now complete, it is with great excitement that we look towards the future of Caloundra CBD.
This year we will install the region-first dynamic canopy lighting feature, which will also provide shade during the day, and implement smart city technologies such as automatic traffic bollards, additional free Wi-Fi points, sensors for waste bins and car parking, and LED lighting.
The next stage of the streetscape is currently in the design phase and work is expected to start in 2018.
