Cr Hungerford column - Maroochy Multi-Sports upgrade continues to kick goals
  • Friday 22 February 2019

I am delighted to advise that works have commenced on a $2.8 million upgrade to Maroochydore Multi-Sport Complex, including a brand new clubhouse with AFL and netball player facilities.

Due for completion in September, upgrading these facilities now not only provides an additional incentive for elite teams to visit, but also makes it easier for hundreds of local families to get involved in AFL and netball each week during the seasons.

This follows the recent addition of new netball courts, which increased the number of hard courts to 20, positioning the complex to host regional, state and national competitions.

With the outstanding success of our very own Sunshine Coast Lightning in the Suncorp Super Netball Series, we’re seeing significant growth in participation numbers in netball, as well as growing interest in staging elite levels of competition in this sport here on the Coast.

We’re also in the midst of hosting five AFL teams at Maroochydore Multi-Sports Complex, which shows the high regard in which our exceptional facilities are held.

To cap it off, we’ve just learned we’ve secured Australia’s biggest netball festival, NetFest to return to this complex, along with Mooloolaba Beach, for a second year running in October, bringing 2,000 participants and their families to the region for four days of activity.
