Hot on the heels of NamJam & the Currie Street Crawl, Nambour hosted another magnificent music event – The Nambour Winter Jazz Fest.
Although my attendance had to be brief due to other commitments on the day, even in the short time I was there I could sense the terrific atmosphere around Nambour as 12 amazing artists and jazz bands played across five local venues.
These events are giving Nambour a name for itself as a music and entertainment precinct. Late last week I travelled to Brisbane to meet Fortitude Valley entertainment precinct managers and Brisbane City Council to explore how they’ve made the valley such a success and how Nambour can follow suit. I’m confident we’ve got the blueprint on which to move forward, so watch this space!
Vale Blair Meldrum
It was with great sadness that I attended the recent funeral of a wonderful community figure, Blair Meldrum. Blair performed in lead roles for just about every community organisation in and around Kenilworth and the Mary Valley during his life and he excelled in them all. To his wife Lenore, daughter Katrina and his sons Cameron, Lenox and Lex, I pass on my sincere condolences.
Community based volunteers give an exceptional amount of time, energy and passion for the Sunshine Coast and their individual communities and Blair certainly ticked all of those boxes and more. A terrific man, a great personal friend, he will be very sadly missed.
Yandina Street Fair
Save the date – Sunday August 20 for the annual Yandina Street Fair! This is the event’s 40th year and will include live bands, art exhibitions, laser light shows and so much more! Check out the event’s website http://yandinastreetfair.org.au/ for more details and I’ll catch you there!
See you in the Valley soon, Rogo.
