On behalf of the Coolum and district community, I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to all of the emergency services – Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), rural fire brigade volunteers, the police and ambulance officers, and council staff – for all their efforts during the recent bush fire emergency and for continuing to keep the spot fires under control since then. This was certainly a team effort and there is no doubt in my mind that without their heroic efforts, many houses and businesses would have been destroyed and, quite possibly, lives lost. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the many hundreds of hardworking volunteers and those businesses and families who put up their hand to help people in need.
A great Australia Day
Coolum and districts’ Australia Day event was again a huge a success. It was a great effort by Coolum Lions and Lionesses to put together a full program of awards and entertainment. Congratulations to this year’s three winners. Lioness June Retchless was recognised as Volunteer of the Year, Yvonne Corstorphin was awarded Citizen of the Year, and Coolum Beach Meals on Wheels is our Community Group of the Year. Although it was a hot day, it was great to see a good turnout for the winners’ announcement and the concert.
