A new Community Garden for Coolum
Our local Coolum community are working together and proactively pursuing the establishment of a community garden at Jack Morgan Park, Coolum. Community gardens are a great way to meet new people, share gardening skills and create a sense of connectedness in a neighbourhood. The group has a Facebook page – www.facebook.com/coolumbeachcommunitygarden – and there’s a survey you can complete which will help them indicate the level of support, interest and involvement you would like to have in the project. Council is working with the group to ensure they have the necessary approvals. The community garden will complete Council’s vision of Jack Morgan Park serving as the civic centre of open space in Coolum Beach.
In sad news, the large fig near the library is in palliative care. Council staff are working hard to save the tree.

Pathway proposal
Coolum High School and parents highlighted the safety issue along Havana Road West, Peregian Springs. Feedback is required for the construction of a missing section of the pathway between Brushbox Way and the Sunshine Motorway to give pedestrians and cyclists a safe alternative to sharing the road with vehicles on what is a narrow and winding road. In an attempt to provide a safe off road pedestrian environment and to minimise vegetation impacts, this two metre wide pathway extension is currently being considered for the Southern side of Havana Street West, within the road reserve. A number of existing verge gardens and driveways will be affected and we would like to hear from the residents on this road as well as the students and community members who use the overpass to get to the coast. Please send your feedback to mail@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au and quote the reference number H9519. Thank-you to those who have already taken the time to have their say.
