Mapleton Library grand reveal

This weekend Mapleton Community Library will celebrate their recent renovations. The new spaces look fantastic and if you haven’t had a chance to support your local library please do so. It’s a wonderful hive of activity. The next story time session is on Saturday 5 June. The upgrade was made possible thanks to Federal, State and Council funding including a council grant.

Terminus takes off

On Friday 14 May I helped celebrate the official opening of the Nambour Heritage Tramway Depot. Nambour’s newest attraction is the result of many years of community effort to get the tramway on track. Sunshine Coast artist Russell Anderson revealed the Tram of Thought – the final design for the Nambour Tram. Where else in the world can you ride on a piece of public art through the streets? I love it. I am proud to have connected Russell with The Nambour Tram Company who had searched everywhere across Australia and the world for someone to build the tram. And now we have a true local building it. The terminus project, which includes an information centre, has been funded by the Federal Government, council and the Nambour Tramway Company (TNT Co), with contributions including a generous donation from philanthropists Roy and Nola Thompson.

Nambour forecourt

Works are now underway regarding the transformation of the Nambour forecourt, located in front of the Nambour Library. Shaded dining areas will be installed and a central open lawn area will soften and help cool the area. Integrated seating, a games area and festoon lighting over green nooks will help deliver council’s vision of a hub with a sub-tropical experience for the local community to enjoy and will be a valuable investment to the economy in the area. Watch this space as the plans take shape.

Have your say on the Sunshine Coast’s public transport future

Come down to Nambour Library on Tuesday 8 June from 10am-noon to give your feedback and help us decide on the best public transport options for our region.

Visit council’s website for more information and to have your say before June 22.
